Challenger Tour VOD concept
I was tasked with creating a new proof-of-concept website for the Challenger Tour to test a fan-focused website built around video-on-demand. Since tournaments occur worldwide every day, my goal was to provide fans with a single platform to watch, discover, and enjoy grassroots tennis in a fresh and exciting way.
Goals
Build a hybrid VOD experience optimised for mobile.
Develop a gritty, raw visual look and feel that connects with a younger audience while adhering to industry UI/UX best practices for VOD.
Test fans' and the business's appetite for a dedicated Challenger Tour hub, separate from the ATP, and an entry point for fans into professional tennis.
Final Results
The proof of concept brought together best practices in video-on-demand, like easy-to-use playback controls, recommended content, and a responsive design, with a bold new look. It demonstrated to stakeholders how the Challenger Tour can differentiate itself from the ATP Tour and other tennis tournaments, both in terms of style and features, while maintaining a clear connection between the two. This helped clarify what makes our approach unique and valuable, with direction for innovation in the ATP digital product portfolio..
Deliverables

Lessons Learnt
Ensuring the site’s content is hyperlinked, showcasing the extensive tournament schedule as much as the video experience itself.
Speed is helpful in proof-of-concept projects, but user testing remains essential to validate decisions and direction, ultimately building a successful product.
Next Steps
Test the platform with younger fans to further refine positioning and ensure it resonates with the target audience.
Assess various monetisation models (ads, subscriptions, partnerships) in conjunction with ongoing optimisation of the user experience.
